Who this applies to
This policy covers the website at angavuafricainsights.com and the information it collects. It is written for visitors to the site. Where Angavu Africa Insights processes personal data as part of a client assignment, that is governed separately by the agreement for that piece of work, not by this policy.
What this website collects
The enquiry form
If you complete the Request a Quote form, the following is sent to us by email:
- Your name
- Your organisation, if you give one
- Your email address
- Your phone or WhatsApp number, if you give one
- The service category you selected
- Your project description, expected deliverables, deadline and budget range, as you entered them
- Anything else you typed into the additional information field
- The fact that you ticked the consent box, and the date and time of submission
This information is used to respond to your enquiry and, if the work proceeds, to carry it out. It is not used for marketing, is not sold, and is not shared with anyone outside the business except where we are required by law to disclose it.
The form asks you not to include confidential material or personal data about research participants in a first enquiry. If you do send such material anyway, it is handled under the same terms, but we would rather agree how it should be transferred before you send it.
Server logs
The web hosting service records standard technical information when a page is requested, which typically includes the IP address, the time of the request, the page requested and the browser's user-agent string. These logs are created by the hosting provider as part of operating the server. They are used for security and troubleshooting.
Spam prevention
The enquiry form includes a hidden field that automated submissions tend to fill in, and it measures the time between the page loading and the form being submitted. Where rate limiting is enabled, a one-way hash derived from the IP address is stored temporarily so that repeated submissions can be counted. No readable IP address is stored by this mechanism and the counters are deleted automatically.
What this website does not do
- It sets no cookies of its own.
- It runs no analytics, no advertising and no tracking scripts.
- It does not build a profile of you, and it does not track you across other sites.
- It has no accounts, no logins and no user-generated content.
- It accepts no file uploads.
See the cookie information page for more detail.
Third parties
Web hosting. The site is hosted by a commercial hosting provider, which operates the server and necessarily processes requests made to it, including the server logs described above.
Fonts. The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. This means your browser makes a request to Google's servers when a page loads, and Google receives your IP address and user-agent as part of that request. Google states that it does not use these requests to create profiles or serve advertising. If you would rather this did not happen, a browser content blocker will prevent it and the site remains fully readable.
Email. Enquiries are delivered by email, which means the mail is handled by the relevant mail providers in transit and at rest in the receiving mailbox.
How long information is kept
Enquiry emails are kept for as long as there is a reason to keep them. In practice that means for the duration of any resulting work and a reasonable period afterwards, or for as long as records must be retained for tax or legal purposes. Enquiries that do not lead to work are deleted once they are no longer needed. You can ask for yours to be deleted sooner.
Your rights
Kenya's Data Protection Act gives data subjects rights in relation to their personal data, including the right to be informed of its use, to access it, to have inaccurate data corrected, to object to processing in certain circumstances, and to request deletion. To exercise any of these in relation to an enquiry you have sent, contact us using the details on the site and describe what you are asking for.
If you are not satisfied with how a request has been handled, you may complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, the enquiry form validates submissions on the server, and no visitor data is stored in a database on the website. Enquiry content lives in email.
No system is completely secure, and this policy does not promise that it is. What it promises is that the website collects as little as it can, keeps nothing it does not need, and does not pass information to third parties for their own purposes.
Changes
If the website's functionality changes, for example if analytics or file uploads are added, this policy will be updated before the change goes live and the date at the top will change.
